Letter from Sandra Dixon Barber dated 03/28/05:

Hi there,
I just got home from the hospital. Lewis is scheduled to have surgery again
in the morning to have the antiseptic beads (antibodies) taken out of his knee
and also have part of his right middle finger taken off. He is also taken therapy
to help him walk again. He has progressed well but still has a long way to go. I
am not sure if he will attend our son's wedding on April 30th which is going to
be held in Raleigh. This trip may be too much for him. I will have my daughter
video tape the wedding so my husband can see it. Anyway, thanks for the pix
of you, Judy and Louise. I have not seen Judy since we all graduated. Good to
see her picture. Well take care. I'll keep in touch. Love, Sandra

Hi Randy,
Thanks for the ecards. "God will always love us" is beautiful. I got home Friday
afternoon about 4:00pm. Lewis was transported in a ambulance back to
Haywood Regional Hosp. Friday at noon. He will have surgery Tuesday morning
on his right knee again to see if there's any scar tissues formed in it. This knee
is not the one he had a knee replacement. This procedures the doctor is using
is called the orthscopic, it's a scope they use to go in to see if there's any fluid
or other injuries in the knee. Lewis will be in the hospital for a while. He has
some pneumonia (chest colds) .I am doing just fine. Hope all of this will be
over soon. Take care. Love, Sandra

Letter from Sandra Dixon Barber dated 02/28/05:

Hey  Randy,
My husband wanted to thank the class of 70's for your prayers and the card. He
had to be airlifted last Wednesday from Haywood Regional Hospital to Baptist
Hospital in Winston-Salem because he got a Staph infection from the epidural
shot in Jan. for his second surgery on his knee because the scar tissue had
formed in there. He was in ICU for 10 days and was in critical condition. He is
okay now and is out of ICU and has a private room. We still have to wear
gowns when we go in there to see him because he had the worse infections
the doctors has never seen.

I am staying with my daughter in Mebane and am driving back and forth to the
Baptist hospital. He may be here for 2 weeks. The infection started in his
back and went to his right hand and then his knees. He has had surgeries on
them because it was infected. This is his fourth time to the hospital. I don't
know when I will be going home. When the doctors get ready to release him,
he will be transported back home in the ambulance or maybe helicopter
because he has a drainage in his back. It's a long term for him to recovery.

Anyway thanks for the card and I love the 70's class. We are a family! Well
take care. I'll keep in touch. Bye!   Love, Sandra

Hi Randy,
I'm sorry I haven't email you lately because I have been going back and
forth to the hospital. My husband is back in the hospital for the 3rd time in 3
months. He had a knee replacement in Dec. 2004 and he has had some
complications from that and also has some kind of infections and the doctors
are treating him for that. His sugar level is 315 and his white blood cells is
2700 which is really high for both. He is not a diabetic but his sugar too high
so they had to give him 3rd insulin to get it come down but it's not working
so they're doing all kinds of tests on him to see what is going on. I am so
stressed out with my job and my husband being very sick. I have been out of
work so much and I don't have anymore sick or leave time. I have used of all
it. Oh well, what can you do. Nothing! Well gotta go. Take care.
Love, Sandra.
