1970 Factoids:
Fiber Optic Cable Invented:
Corning Glass researchers designed
and produced the first optical fiber
with optical losses low enough for
wide use in telecommunications
a practical reality.

Sports: Attempting to make a
court-length shot from out of
bounds, Steve Myers of Pacific
Lutheran University hit a field
goal of 92 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
Officials correctly ruled the shot
illegal, but when the fans booed,
they reversed their decision and
let the shot stand.

Monday Night Football premiered on
ABC on September 21 and
Browns beat Jets 31-21.
